Leapmotor has confirmed pricing and specifications for its all-new B05 electric hatchback, with the rear-wheel-drive small EV arriving in Australian showrooms next month priced from $35,990 drive-away.

Available in two grades, the B05 Style opens the range with a 56.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivering up to 401km of WLTP driving range, while the flagship B05 Design LR costs $38,990 drive-away during the launch period and extends range to 482km thanks to a larger 67.1kWh battery.

After the introductory offer ends, the Design LR will be priced from $39,990 drive-away.

The new hatchback slots beneath the larger Leapmotor B10 SUV and gives the Chinese brand a direct rival to EVs including the MG4 Urban and BYD Dolphin.

Unlike many rivals, both B05 variants use a rear-mounted electric motor producing 160kW and 240Nm, with the lighter Design LR completing the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 6.7 seconds.

Both versions also feature a near 50:50 weight distribution and were chassis tuned in Italy with input from Stellantis engineers at the Balocco proving ground before receiving further suspension tuning specifically for Australian roads.

Stellantis, the global auto giant with brand’s such as Alfa Romeo and Peugeot, controls Leapmotor sales and distribution outside its home China market.

The B05 also introduces Leapmotor’s latest cell-to-chassis battery construction, integrating the battery pack into the vehicle’s structure to improve rigidity, reduce weight and maximise cabin space.

Both models support 11kW AC charging, while DC charging peaks at 174kW on the Design LR, allowing a 30 to 80 per cent recharge in approximately 18 minutes under ideal conditions. The Style completes the same recharge in around 16 minutes.

Measuring 4430mm long with a long 2735mm wheelbase, the B05 offers up to 1205 litres of cargo capacity with the rear seats folded and features 25 storage compartments throughout the cabin.

Standard equipment on the entry-level Style includes 19-inch alloy wheels, frameless doors, LED lighting, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, a Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered infotainment system, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera with integrated dashcam and Leapmotor’s connected vehicle services.

Stepping up to the Design LR adds a panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, TechnoLeather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats, rear privacy glass, multi-colour ambient lighting and a 12-speaker surround sound system.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags and 21 advanced driver assistance systems supported by 14 sensors and cameras. New features include Automatic Lane Change, Front Vehicle Departure Warning, Front Cross Traffic Assist and Front Cross Traffic Brake, while over-the-air software updates and smartphone app connectivity are also standard.
