Future Earth is pleased to announce the selection of 17 outstanding researchers as recipients of the 2025 Future Earth Early-Career Fellowship.

This new cohort—representing China, India, Switzerland, Germany, and Spain—was chosen for their exceptional achievements and strong potential to advance interdisciplinary research that supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Empowering the Next Generation of Sustainability Scientists

At the time of application, six fellows were completing their doctoral studies, while eleven had obtained their PhDs within the past five years. Positioned at a formative stage in their academic careers, these early-career researchers are poised to pursue innovative research directions, collaborate with global sustainability leaders, and develop new ideas that drive transformative solutions for people and the planet.

Building a Global Network for Collaboration and Impact

To support the fellows in expanding their research impact, Future Earth will organize a series of online and in-person knowledge-sharing sessions throughout the year. These activities aim to:

  • Enhance the fellows’ visibility in global sustainability research;
  • Introduce new perspectives into Future Earth’s SDG-related initiatives
  • Foster cross-border and interdisciplinary collaboration; and
  • Build a vibrant, long-term network of early-career researchers committed to advancing global sustainable development.
