Econic’s technology can drive significant advantages for your business. Companies that license our technology find it easier to develop and launch high-performance products with a lower carbon footprint.
From CO₂-based innovations to comprehensive support and access to future developments, an Econic license provides a range of advantages.
Keep reading to learn how you can benefit from our technology, which represents over 10 years of research and development in CO₂-based materials, supported by a portfolio of more than 100 patents.
Exclusive access to proven technology
Licensing Econic’s technology provides access to our proprietary technology for PCE polyols made from renewable carbon. By embedding upcycled CO₂ into products, our technology not only reduces the carbon footprint by up to 30% but also enhances product performance across various applications. Our team will collaborate with you to seamlessly integrate this process into your operations, helping you finetune the properties of PCE polyols to meet specific performance goals—whether that’s making foams process faster or coatings more durable. Ultimately, you’ll achieve your sustainability targets while benefiting from an economically viable solution that doesn’t compromise on quality or cost.
Operational support
Our in-house engineers and external partners provide end-to-end operational support, from plant design to the assessment of capital and operational expenditures. Beyond just implementation, we help you leverage the process advantages of Econic’s technology, such as maintaining energy efficiency by utilizing recycled CO2 at standard production temperatures and pressures. Our collaboration ensures that your adoption of Econic’s process is both cost-effective and optimized for your specific business needs, resulting in sustainable products that outperform traditional alternatives without compromising on cost or quality.
Application guidance
Our application development team is committed to ensuring that you maximize the benefits of integrating Econic’s PCE polyols into your product portfolio. As Dr. Richard Stevenson, our Application Development Lead, highlights, “The first step we take with any new licensee is understanding their specific application needs. This allows us to provide targeted guidance that optimizes the performance of our polyols for their particular use case.”
The process begins with a comprehensive familiarization phase, where we provide detailed documentation on process chemistry, control requirements, and equipment specifications. This is followed by an in-person or virtual demonstration at our UK lab, offering your team the opportunity to see the Econic process in action.
“Our goal is to ensure that by the time you leave our lab, you’re not just familiar with the process—you’re confident in how it can elevate your product performance, whether through faster foam processing, more durable coatings, or reduced need for flame retardants,” says Stevenson. By collaborating closely with your team, we ensure that you and your customers fully benefit from the advanced performance and sustainability of our materials.

Access to future developments
Licensing our technology includes ongoing access to future developments. For example, last year Econic focused on developing its polyols technology for several application areas, including viscoelastic foam for furniture and mattresses. Now we are developing the technology further for applications in the CASE and automotive markets. Companies that license our polyols technology will have access to new data for these application areas, as well as support from our team.
Technical service and support
Our technical service and support are designed to provide more than just basic assistance—we offer a robust, hands-on approach to ensure successful implementation and scale-up of Econic’s technology. Simon Blake, Econic’s Lead Process Engineer, explains, “When you visit our lab and offices in the UK, you’re not just observing a process—you’re engaging in a hands-on experience that allows us to address your specific operational needs in real-time.”
For example, we’ve worked closely with a North American licensee during the commissioning of their pilot plant, providing on-site support to ensure a smooth transition to production. “This direct involvement is crucial,” says Simon. “It allows us to fine-tune the process based on real-world conditions, ensuring that the scale-up is not only efficient but also tailored to the unique requirements of each licensee.”
Similarly, with large-scale licensees in Asia, we’ve been involved in every phase—from detailed design reviews to hazard assessments—ensuring that their operations are safe, efficient, and capable of producing high-quality material. “Our ongoing collaboration ensures that any challenges are addressed promptly, and the process remains optimized for performance and cost-effectiveness,” Blake concludes.
Support on Sustainability Claims
Econic’s technology, first and foremost, is a sustainable one. We understand that brands want to make robust, science-based claims that consumers can trust. Econic maintains vigorous life-cycle assessments on all its technology, keeping these assessments in line with industry best practices. As our Environmental Technologist, Joe Evans, points out, “Industries in the past have really suffered (and continue to suffer) from sustainability claims which are unsupported by strong data. Greenwashing is detrimental to maintaining the trust of the customer.”
That’s why, as part of the licensing process, Econic’s in-house sustainability team can support your own in understanding how our LCA was conducted, how that aligns with key marketing claims and how it needs to be adapted for your particular region and raw material sources. As Evans emphasizes, “We want to support our customers in understanding exactly how our sustainability claims are determined and to develop a strong level of confidence in the claims they are making.”

Licensing Econic’s technology provides a pathway to incorporating sustainable practices and innovations into your business. With our extensive patent portfolio, technical support, and access to future developments, Econic offers resources to help your company navigate the evolving landscape of CO2-based materials.
If you’re interested in pursuing a license, the first steps involve a memorandum of understanding (MOU). This is followed by a familiarization phase, where our team works with you to explore how our CO2-based innovations can best fit your needs and a license negotiation. Finally, we will onboard your team and begin working together.
