Loop Global completed a 64-port Level 2 charging installation at a multifamily development in Hyde Park, a Boston neighborhood. Loop Global is a leading provider of turnkey electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, and the project was completed in May. It’s a very large EV charger installation for a multifamily structure in the particular local area. I had submitted some questions for an interview a while back and responses just came in, so I still wanted to create this post because of the project details.
There aren’t enough EV chargers at multifamily structures, so it’s worth reporting on some of these developments to show they are happening, just slowly. When residents of multi-family structures have onsite charging, they can charge at home which is obviously much more convenient. Additionally, in Massachusetts, electric vehicle chargers have not been installed at a great rate, so reporting on these new ones may be encouraging.
Rob Kutner, Chief Commercial Officer at Loop Global, answered the project questions for us.
How long did it take to install the 64 Level 2 EV chargers?
Design and incentive applications began in early 2025. Physical installation started in October 2025, and the project was completed, energized, and commissioned in early 2026. The installation phase itself took several months, with the broader project spanning approximately one year from planning through commissioning.
What was the approximate project cost and what portion was supported by government incentives?
Eversource incentive programs covered approximately 70% of total project costs, including charging infrastructure for all 64 ports and a portion of the charging hardware.
Can the new chargers deliver charge at all times of day and night?
The charging stations are available to residents around the clock, providing access to EV charging whenever it is needed. One of the key advantages of multifamily charging is that residents can charge overnight or during extended parking periods, rather than relying on public charging locations or adjusting their schedules around charger availability. The Loop network continuously monitors charger status and performance to help ensure a reliable charging experience at all times of day and night.
Are the chargers only for the building residents? Or can building visitors use them too?
The charging stations are located within a secured parking garage and are intended for residents and visitors of the community. Because the chargers are situated behind controlled-access entry points, they are not available for general public use. The installation was designed to provide convenient, at-home charging access for residents of the 247-unit development.
