We are proud to share an upcoming milestone for our founders, Arran and Ratana. Today, they are being publicly recognized for a significant personal gift to Simon Fraser University, supporting the naming of the Stephens Family School of Medicine.

This is a deeply personal act of philanthropy, reflecting their longstanding commitment to giving across healthcare, education, food security, and community well-being.

Over many years, Arran and Ratana have supported a wide range of initiatives — often quietly and without public recognition. This latest contribution continues that pattern of personal generosity and care for causes that contribute to long-term community health and resilience.

This gift is also rooted in a very clear purpose.

British Columbia is facing a critical shortage of family doctors, leaving many communities without access to primary care. This new medical school is being designed to help address that need — training future generations of family physicians who are grounded in community-based care.

What makes this school especially meaningful is its holistic approach to health and healing — bringing together clinical excellence with a broader understanding of care, including Indigenous perspectives, nutrition, and whole-person well-being. It reflects a belief that better health outcomes come from looking at the full picture of what helps people thrive.

For Arran and Ratana, this also connects to a lifelong belief that health begins long before treatment — in how we nourish ourselves and care for one another.

The establishment of the Stephens Family School of Medicine marks an important investment in the future of healthcare in British Columbia — one that will help strengthen access to care and attract the next generation of talented, purpose-driven physicians.

This gift reflects their ongoing legacy of leaving our communities, our people, and the Earth better than we found them.
