The Greentown Labs community popped the confetti in celebration of saving a total of 1 million bottles with Bevi’s flavored and sparkling water dispensers across the incubator’s Boston location. Complete with a merch giveaway, flavor leaderboard, and commemorative water glasses, the lunchtime event shined a special spotlight on everyone’s favorite hydration station—and how far the company has come since its early days as a Greentown member more than 11 years ago.
Founded in 2013 with the mission of reducing single-use plastic bottles for water and seltzer, Bevi internet-connected machines mix flavorings into water on-demand, making them the perfect replacement for a fridge stocked with seltzer and bottled water—which saves not only packaging but the fuel needed to deliver beverages.
“The idea is that it’s ridiculous to waste fuel transporting water from a bottling plant to wherever it’s ultimately consumed,” said Sean Grundy, the company’s co-founder in 2019. “When I met [my co-founder Eliza Becton], she was very passionate about this concept—how to get more people drinking filtered tap water instead of bottled water, and how could we increase the portion of their water and other beverages that they drink in reusable bottles. I got instantly hooked on the concept, just because it made so much sense.”

“Greentown Labs played a huge role in Bevi’s formative years. It was the perfect environment for a hardware start-up, especially one focused on sustainability,” said Grundy. “As first-time founders, it was incredibly helpful to be surrounded by talented engineers and entrepreneurs. In addition to learning so much from the Greentown community, we also met some of our first customers, got connected to investors, and last but certainly not least – made friends with people who shared our sustainability values.”
