The two cheapest SUVs come from sister brands Hyundai and Kia.
While both the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Soul have historically shared the same platform, the 2025 Kia Soul now uses Kia’s larger K3 platform (also used in the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona). The 2025 Hyundai Venue continues to use the older K2 platform.
Car and Driver recommends the Chevrolet Trax
While it’s not the absolute cheapest in this ranking, prospective buyers should be aware that the 2025 Chevrolet Trax received a perfect 10/10 score from Car and Driver.
It’s not the most exciting small SUV to drive, but the Trax more than makes up for that with its exceptional value equation, sharp looks, and spacious interior.
Interestingly, the Trax is made in South Korea at GM’s Changwon plant, meaning it will be subject to the 25% tariff on imported vehicles. Check out this graphic to see how that policy could impact the prices of various car brands.
