ION Clean Energy announced a new product line called ICE Blocks
. These are modular, scalable units designed specifically for small-scale post-combustion carbon capture. They target emissions from natural gas power plants and other sources that are difficult to clean up.
ICE Blocks
are fully self-contained units. They include the capture island, which houses the solvent system, flue gas ducting, CO2 compression, dehydration, and storage tanks. Customers can customize the units by adding optional modules for different functions. These modules make the units flexible for various plant sizes and configurations.
CEO Tim Vail said, “Our ICE-31
solvent powers these units. ICE Blocks
are a proven, reliable, and cost-effective solution for smaller emission sources.” He explained the units can be deployed quickly and safely. They are transportable via road, rail, or ship, making them suitable for different locations.
To develop these units efficiently, ION partnered with Texas-based Modular Plant Solutions (MPS). MPS led the engineering and design process, bringing extensive experience in modularization. The units will be available in multiple sizes to meet diverse customer needs.
Ben Gurtler, COO of ION, commented, “Selecting MPS was a strategic decision. Their expertise in modular design ensures we can produce high-quality units efficiently.” He added, “This partnership will help us meet the rising global demand for carbon capture solutions and enable faster deployment at various sites.”
MPS will utilize its modularization systems to scale up production. The design allows for easy shipping by truck, rail, or container ship. Russell Hillenburg, President of MPS, said, “Our modular approach makes it easier to deliver ICE Blocks
worldwide.” He emphasized, “We are dedicated to advancing carbon capture technology and supporting ION’s mission to reduce global greenhouse gases.”
