In this Q1 2026 Sustainability Strategy update, we focus on the actions we are taking to advance Domtar’s 2030 Sustainability Strategy, which we launched in Q2 2025.

Following the launch, we started quarterly progress updates across the three pillars of Domtar’s sustainability strategy: Environmental StewardshipOur People and Communities and Responsible Business

Domtar’s Q1 2026 Sustainability Strategy Update

Domtar’s Environmental Stewardship pillar sets several objectives for stewarding the planet’s resources. In Q1 2026, we successfully:

  • Maintained 100 percent third-party certification at our manufacturing facilities and forest operations. We also finalized a work plan to develop company-wide policies for responsible wood fiber sourcing and forest management that builds on our long-established legacy frameworks, such as Domtar’s Fiber Use and Sourcing Policy.
  • Enhanced our data set for evaluating operational scenarios to decarbonize our operations, products and value chain, including data to help define Domtar’s greenhouse gas emission (GHG) baseline. This is a crucial component for setting our 2026 science-based GHG emissions reduction target.
  • Established a 2025 baseline for assessing all manufacturing sites at a high level for water risks, as disclosed to CDP. Internal experts will use this information to conduct water risk assessments with third-party tools, like the World Resources Institute Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, supporting our target of every facility having a water-related risk mitigation plan.

Under the Our People and Communities pillar, we also made progress on our goals related to employee safety, Indigenous partnerships, community engagement, talent development and employee experience. For this Q1 2026 Sustainability Strategy update, we have:

  • Launched our company-wide Health & Safety Policy, a framework that promotes our proactive approach to controlling risks by combining safety leadership attitudes with individual accountability. Next, we will establish annual safety targets that drive positive actions and behaviors, measured by key performance indicators to be announced over the course of the year.
  • Interviewed JP Gladu, Anishinaabek leader and businessman with 35 years of experience in the natural resource sector. He provides strategic advice to Domtar as one of three External Sustainability Advisory Committee members. Next, we will profile our other two advisors, Tensie Whelan and Hélène V. Gagnon.
  • Advanced our 2030 volunteerism milestone by tracking our 2025 volunteer hours to use as a point of comparison with upcoming years, enhancing our commitment to community engagement.

Our Responsible Business pillar is the foundation for how we engage customers, business partners and other stakeholders ethically, transparently and sustainably. For this Q1 2026 Sustainability Strategy update, we:

  • Confirmed that 100 percent of our employees participated in our annual Code of Business Conduct and Ethics training in 2025. The 2026 training window is scheduled for Q2-Q3 of 2026. In addition, we plan to introduce training on Domtar’s Global Sustainability Policy and its commitments.
  • Analyzed our 2025 customer sustainability requests to understand trends and translate the data into actionable insights. We identified opportunities to support shared goals and make decisions focused on our customers’ priorities.

Pie chart with 350 customer requests in 2025 as part of the Q1 2026 Sustainability Strategy update

We received more than 350 requests in 2025. Customers asked most often about forest and fiber sourcing, while climate and carbon requests continue to trend upwards as a rapidly growing priority.

Sustainability at Domtar means committing to stewarding the planet’s resources responsibly, supporting and engaging with our people and communities and operating as a responsible business. This is the foundation for the three pillars of our sustainability strategy, which guides us toward 2030 with measurable goals. We track our sustainability strategy’s progress internally, verify it externally, and report it transparently on Domtar.com.
