Biotalys, an innovative agricultural technology company specializing in protein-based biocontrols, announced today that its biofungicide EVOCA
has received state registration in Florida.
This marks the first time a biocontrol product from the company’s AGROBODY
platform has gained approval at the state level in the United States, representing a significant milestone for the company and the broader biocontrol industry.
The Florida Department of Agriculture approved EVOCA using the label previously authorized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), confirming the product’s safety and efficacy for controlling fungal diseases such as Botrytis and powdery mildew in fruits and vegetables.
The approval is expected to enable local growers to adopt EVOCA for sustainable crop protection, particularly on crops like strawberries, tomatoes, and peppers.
Carlo Boutton, interim CEO of Biotalys, expressed optimism about the development: “Achieving registration in Florida is a pivotal step for our company. Florida is a major producer of key fruits and vegetables, and this approval validates our innovative biofungicide as a safe and effective tool for growers facing disease challenges. It also paves the way for future regulatory approvals across the U.S. and globally.”
Regulatory progress is also underway in other key markets. In California, the company reports that the Department of Pesticide Regulation is advancing its review, with approval anticipated in the second half of 2026.
Meanwhile, in Europe, the regulatory process is progressing through a public consultation phase, with evaluations expected to continue by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and Dutch authorities.
The company is also preparing for the launch of EVOCA NG, a next-generation version of the product expected to be commercially available in the U.S. by 2029 and in Europe by 2030, targeting a market valued at approximately USD 1.1 billion.
