Never let someone tell you that you can’t achieve something. If you feel passionately about something, there is no one and nothing who can stand in your way.”

Wilson Dairy Farm MD — Freeland, Baltimore County

What inspired you to pursue a career in agriculture, and what keeps you passionate about it today?
I’m inspired to provide a healthy and nutritional product to consumers across the globe. I stay passionate every day by caring for the animals, hosting tours, teaching youth and leading by example!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a woman in farming, and how did you overcome it?
Starting over on my own farm was the biggest challenge I faced last year. Whether it’s the feed delivery guy, milk truck driver, nutritionist, field reps or anyone else who visits the farm, they all start out asking “where is your husband?” Or “where is your dad” or “where is the man in charge?” They struggle to accept that a woman does 100% of the work and the best way I have overcame this challenge is by sharing my story online and reminding everyone across the globe that women are just as capable as men in the agricultural industry.

Are you a first-generation farmer, or are you carrying on a family legacy?
Both. I am technically a 4th generation dairy farmer however my grandmother evicted us when I was 25 and our home farm is in disrepair now with no other siblings interested in farming. I had to start over by finding my own farm and building my own parlor as well as putting my own systems in place.

What is one piece of advice you would give to the next generation of young women entering the agricultural field?
Never let someone tell you that you can’t achieve something. If you feel passionately about something, there is no one and nothing who can stand in your way.

What is the most rewarding part of your day-to-day life on the farm?
Spending quality time with the cows and feeling the peace in my head and heart, knowing that I’m successfully caring for 50 cows and 50 acres.
