A Maryland farm endured significant damage – but, fortunately, no one was hurt.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office attributed the May 30 fire, which claimed a storage building on a poultry farm in Caroline County, to the spontaneous combustion of manure.
Approximately 31 firefighters controlled the fire within one hour after responding to reports of fire around 7:30 a.m. The 100 x 50′, wood-framed outbuilding was engulfed in flames when it was discovered by a family member. The fire spreading also caused damage to farm equipment, which caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
