America’s Wealth Machine Keeps Pulling Ahead
No country comes close to matching the United States. With 23.6 million millionaires, it is home to roughly two out of every five millionaires worldwide, more than the next 11 countries combined.
The gap widened further in 2025, when the U.S. added more than 440,000 new millionaires, equivalent to over 1,200 every day, driven in part by strong equity markets.
Beyond market performance, the U.S. benefits from a large base of entrepreneurs and broad household participation in financial markets. With 62% of U.S. adults owning stocks in 2025, millions of households have exposure to the long-term gains that drive wealth accumulation.
Together with widespread homeownership, these factors have helped make the U.S. the world’s largest hub for private wealth creation.
Where Millionaires Cluster Outside the U.S.
China remains comfortably in second place with 5.3 million millionaires, but still has less than one-third as many as the United States. Japan follows in third, underscoring how East Asia’s private wealth remains anchored in these economies.
India, by comparison, is home to 944,000 millionaires, putting it roughly on par with Switzerland.
Outside North America and East Asia, Europe stands out for its depth rather than dominance. Ten European countries appear in the global top 20, led by Germany, the UK, France, and the Netherlands, highlighting the region’s broad base of high-income economies.
2025 Was a Banner Year for Wealth Creation
The world’s millionaire population grew by nearly one million people in 2025, and every market tracked by UBS reported more millionaires than the previous year.
Global personal wealth increased 10.8% in 2025, more than double the pace recorded in both 2023 and 2024. Rising stock markets, resilient real estate prices in many countries, and a weaker U.S. dollar all contributed to the surge.
