Citigroup announced that its Citi Impact Fund will invest $25 million to support companies using technology to improve housing access, supply and affordability in communities across the U.S.

Launched in 2020, the Citi Impact Fund invests in “double-bottom line” companies delivering both financial returns and positive social impact, with a focus on supporting economically vulnerable Americans across four key areas, including social infrastructure, financial resilience, the future of work, and climate resilience. Citi said the fund has already backed companies that are breaking down barriers across the housing continuum.

The company said that the investment commitment will target a broad range of housing-related solutions, including construction technology that improves productivity and lowers costs, financial technology solutions that reduce barriers to homeownership and affordability, and AI-enabled platforms that help contractors build more efficiently, automating administrative tasks such as permitting.

According to Citi, the investment forms part of its Blueprint for Housing Opportunity, a five-year initiative for affordable housing finance. Under this program, Citi and the Citi Foundation plan to provide $60 billion in financing over five years for the acquisition, construction, rehabilitation and long-term financing of affordable housing. The initiative also includes $50 million in philanthropic grants from the Citi Foundation to nonprofit organizations addressing local housing challenges, supporting residents’ financial well-being, and advancing research into scalable housing solutions, alongside public policy and advocacy efforts to increase housing supply, including support for the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program

Edward Skyler, Head of Enterprise Services and Public Affairs at Citi, said:

“We need to harness the same entrepreneurial spirit which has driven America’s leadership in AI and technology to unlock that innovation and show that lasting commercial success and community impact can go hand in hand. In this case, that’s helping more Americans access homes they can afford.”
