SmartSolve is expanding the reach of its bio-based packaging material into agriculture. PureNil 0, a plastic-free, water-soluble pouching material, launched commercially in January 2026. It has already found uses in personal care, home cleaning and healthcare. Now it’s gaining traction on farms.
The material is fully bio-based and dissolves on contact with water. There’s no scooping, no measuring, and no empty container left behind. That makes it well suited to agriculture, where products are shifting toward pre-measured, single-dose formats.
Growers and brands want convenience without waste. PureNil 0 offers a way to package crop protection products, fertilizers and biological inputs in exact doses. It works for herbicide and pesticide sachets, water-dispersible granules, and tank-mix additives. It also suits micronutrient blends and soluble feed for fertigation and drip systems.
Biological products benefit too. Microbial and mycorrhizal inoculants, beneficial bacteria and biostimulants can all be packaged this way. The same applies to soil amendments like pH adjusters and humic acids, as well as seed packs and starter pellets for propagation.
Consumer lawn and garden products round out the list. Single-use fertilizer sachets, houseplant care products and hydroponic kits can all use the packaging.
SmartSolve says PureNil 0 is compatible with existing packaging equipment. It protects products until use, then disperses without leaving residue behind.
Jon Jakubowski, chief executive of SmartSolve, said brands now have a scalable, fully bio-based alternative to conventional plastic packaging. He said the innovation gives partners a way to lead the sustainable packaging shift, rather than simply keep pace with it.
Regulatory pressure is mounting too. As extended producer responsibility rules tighten, SmartSolve says brands that adopt pre-measured, plastic-free packaging now will gain an edge over those that wait.
