A global energy-economy model found that parallel AI adoption across fossil fuel, renewable, and fuel-neutral pathways could increase annual CO2 emissions by 0.5–1.8 gigatonnes. Renewable productivity gains would need to exceed fossil fuel gains by approximately four to five times to reach emissions breakeven.
