Equities were a major driver of U.S. household wealth growth in 2025, as optimism around AI lifted markets and corporate earnings continued to rise.
America’s household wealth is highly concentrated among the wealthiest, with the top 1% of households accounting for nearly one-third of national wealth. Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, over 18% of the U.S. population lives below the poverty line.
At $175 trillion, U.S. household net worth also exceeds the combined total of China, Germany, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom, which together amount to $151 trillion.
China Ranks Second, Far Behind the U.S.
China had the world’s second-highest household net worth in 2025, at $75 trillion, despite a decline in paper wealth as real estate prices fell.
This represents 13.2% of global household wealth, less than half the U.S. share. Still, China sits well ahead of every other country in the dataset.
Together, the U.S. and China account for $250 trillion in household net worth, equal to 43.9% of the global total. This underscores how much household wealth is concentrated in the world’s two largest economies.
European Countries Saw Some of the Fastest Wealth Growth
While no European country comes close to the household wealth totals of the U.S. or China, Europe has a strong presence throughout the ranking.
Poland, Ireland, Spain, and Sweden were among the fastest-growing countries in 2025, with each posting double-digit household wealth growth in U.S. dollar terms.
Germany ranks third globally with $23 trillion in household net worth and leads Europe, followed by France at $16 trillion, the United Kingdom at $15 trillion, and Italy at $13 trillion.
Several smaller European economies also appear further down the ranking, including Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden.
