The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) account for seven of Trump’s 18 visits, more than any other region, with four trips to Gulf states. Europe follows with six visits, Asia with four, and the Americas with one.

Those Gulf visits were notable not only for their frequency, but also for the scale of the investment and defense agreements announced alongside them.
Trump’s Gulf Visits Focused on Investment
In May 2025, Trump visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE in four days, attending investment forums and meeting with Gulf leaders.
Saudi Arabia announced roughly $600 billion in commitments to the U.S. economy during that visit, including a $142 billion defense package. It was one of the largest deal announcements of a term that began with over $1 trillion in wealth represented at the inauguration.
Analysts at the Middle East Institute have characterized Trump’s Gulf engagement as moving beyond the traditional oil-for-security relationship toward partnerships in technology and AI development.
Europe and Canada Drew Summit Travel
Trump’s first international stop of the term was Vatican City for Pope Francis’s funeral in April 2025, where he also met Volodymyr Zelensky for the first time since their February Oval Office exchange.
Two months later, NATO allies meeting in the Netherlands agreed to spend 5% of GDP on defense by 2035: 3.5% on core defense, comparable with the previous 2% guideline, plus up to 1.5% on defense-related spending such as infrastructure and cybersecurity.
In July, Trump traveled to Scotland for a four-day visit. Less than two months later, he returned to the UK for a state visit, becoming the first U.S. president to receive two UK state visits. His first was in 2019 during his first term.
Canada, host of the June 2025 G7 summit, remains Trump’s only stop in the Americas. He left the summit a day early as the Israel-Iran conflict escalated.
He has made no visits to Latin America so far this term, with tariffs, military deployments, and deportation agreements taking the place of presidential travel. The Center for Strategic and International Studies notes that Trump has given the Western Hemisphere more attention than many past administrations, but through a markedly different form of engagement.
October Was Trump’s Busiest Travel Month
October 2025 was Trump’s busiest month of international travel, with six countries visited across two trips. On October 13, he traveled to Israel and Egypt as the remaining living hostages were released under the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Later that month, he visited Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea for ASEAN and APEC meetings, with a stop in Qatar along the way.
In May 2026, Trump traveled to China for a state visit with President Xi Jinping. Taiwan dominated the talks, with Xi warning the two countries could come into conflict if the issue was handled improperly. Trump also declined to commit to a planned $14 billion U.S. arms sale to the island.
His next trip, not included in the map above, is planned for Ireland in September 2026 aboard the $400 million Boeing jet donated by Qatar.
