Gasum has opened its thirteenth liquefied biogas filling station in Norway. The station sits centrally in the Port of Trondheim. It strengthens the supply of renewable, bio-based fuels for heavy transport in Trøndelag and along the E6 northwards.
The station is located near the E6 highway. The port area is a growing logistics hub in Trondheim. It will serve both local and national carriers.
Gasum opened its first biogas station in Trondheim at Tiller in 2021. Demand for bio-based fuels has grown since then. The new station will strengthen capacity and supply security in the region. It’s part of Gasum’s expanding national network of biogas stations along key transport corridors. Availability matters. It helps more carriers adopt biogas in daily operations.
Biogas is produced from food waste, biological waste and manure. This biomass feedstock helps put otherwise wasted resources to use. When produced from manure, biogas can deliver a very high cut in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels.
On average, biogas cuts lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by 95% versus fossil fuels. Biogas-powered vehicles also improve local air quality through lower nitrogen oxide emissions.
The new station offers both compressed and liquefied biogas. It can serve different types of biogas vehicles.
Norway aims to cut national emissions by at least 55% by 2030, and 70 to 75% by 2035. Transport accounts for about a third of the country’s CO2 emissions. Road transport makes up roughly half of that. Cutting transport emissions is key to meeting Norway’s climate targets.
