Agitation in action

The 2024 North American Manure Expo was held in Auburn, NY to receptive crowds and enthusiastic exhibitors.

Both days of the Expo include demonstrations – spreaders, separators, agitators and more. On day one, despite calls for rain, the only thing making a “splash” were the agitators.

The ever-popular agitation demos featured various methods for agitation from top brands – booms and boats alike lined up along Patterson Farms’ on-site manure put to showcase their abilities.

Peter Wright, agricultural engineer with Cornell PRO-DAIRY, moderated the event, allowing manufacturers to showcase their own products while Wright spoke of the benefits of agitation.

“The manure being recycled is a real plus,” said Wright. “It’s saving money on a farm. Over-application can get you into big trouble. If you don’t agitate, and you want to do a really good job on nutrient management planning, you want to take many, many more samples, because the nutrient content changes over time.”
