Toyota-owned Japanese luxury brand Lexus has confirmed its new TZ three-row electric SUV will launch in Australia in 2027, adding a larger family model to its battery-electric line-up.

The Australian commitment follows the earlier announcement of right-hand-drive production, which put the luxury SUV in contention for local sale but stopped short of confirming its arrival.

The TZ will compete with the Kia EV9 Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Volvo EX90, although Australian pricing, specifications and a more precise launch date have yet to be announced.

Local buyers will get an early opportunity to see the TZ at the 2026 Melbourne Cup Carnival, where it will be displayed alongside the limited-edition RZ 600e F Sport Performance at Lexus’s pavilion in the Birdcage Enclosure at Flemington Racecourse.

The TZ revealed overseas measures 5100mm long, 1990mm wide and 1705mm tall, with a 3050mm wheelbase. Its cabin has six seats arranged in three rows of two, including individual second-row seats with heating, ventilation and ottoman-style leg rests.

Previously announced overseas specifications include a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 300kW, a 95.8kWh battery and a claimed driving range of up to 530km on the WLTP test cycle.

Lexus claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.4 seconds. DC charging peaks at 150kW, with a claimed 10-80 per cent recharge taking 35 minutes. Those figures have yet to be confirmed for the Australian version.

The overseas model also features rear-wheel steering, a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Boot capacity is quoted at 290 litres with all six seats in use, expanding to 2017 litres with the second and third rows folded.

Lexus Australia chief executive Jack Hobbs said the two electric SUVs would serve different roles in the brand’s range.

“The all-new TZ and RZ 600e F SPORT Performance showcase the duality of Lexus electrification. One expands luxury through space and versatility; the other pushes the boundaries of thrilling performance.”

The RZ 600e F Sport Performance is due locally in late 2026, with just nine examples allocated to Australia.

Already priced at $135,000 before on-road costs, it sits above the RZ 500e Luxury and Sports Luxury and RZ 550e F Sport in the updated electric SUV range.

The 600e combines a 77kWh battery with a 313kW dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. Lexus claims 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds and up to 420km of WLTP range.

Its changes include sports suspension lowered by 20mm, additional aerodynamic components, unique 21-inch wheels and a yoke-style steering wheel paired with steer-by-wire technology.
