ECOncrete, a developer of bio-enhancing marine bioconcrete technology, and Submar, a design-build erosion control company, have announced a new strategic partnership. The deal will bring bio-based protection solutions to the Gulf Coast and offshore markets.

Under the agreement, Submar will manufacture, market and distribute its articulated bioconcrete revetment mats with ECOncrete’s patented bio-enhancing technology built in. The product, known as the Submar Mat, will be used across the Gulf Coast and offshore region.

The partnership builds on a two year bio-focused collaboration. Together, the companies have already produced more than 1,000 bio-enhanced mats for marine projects. By combining ECOncrete’s bioconcrete technology with Submar’s mat, the companies say they can offer a bio-active, hard armoring solution that protects infrastructure while supporting marine life and local habitat.

The biomat is designed for a range of Gulf applications, including energy, telecommunications, maritime infrastructure, coastal restoration and shoreline protection. Offshore uses include transmission lines, gas pipelines, subsea cables and floating or fixed energy assets. Nearshore applications can serve municipalities, port authorities and waterfront agencies restoring shorelines with bio-enhancing infrastructure.

Submar president Joseph Fournet said two years of real-world bio-enhancing projects showed what the technology can do. He said protecting infrastructure moving into coastal waters while supporting biodiversity is achievable.

ECOncrete co-founder and CEO Ido Sella said partnering with established players like Submar is key to scaling the company’s bio-enhancing science. He pointed to more than a decade of proven results across over 60 global bioconcrete projects. Sella said the partnership will help meet growing demand for bio-based marine infrastructure that delivers nature-positive, biologically active outcomes.

With offshore energy development and coastal restoration growing across the Gulf, the companies say they are positioned to protect infrastructure while supporting the marine environment through bio-enhancing solutions.
