On Monday, October 5, 2026, I had the honor to speak at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Students studying in the fields of Environmental science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, and Theology, attended my presentation on “Sustainability as a Moral Responsibility.”

The hospitality of everyone on campus was impeccable and I had time to appreciate their beautiful college overlooking the Missouri river. The Newman Guide recommends about 27, or less undergraduate colleges and Benedictine College is in the top five. The latest ranking places Benedictine college as third in the United States.

I was invited by Dr. Bugayong of the Chemistry department, who first set up a Pizza lunch meeting for me with the students studying and those on the Board, in the field of Environmental science. Dr. Ramage who teaches Environmental Theology also joined us. The exchange was phenomenal and I greatly enjoyed that “one on one” time with each student. Additionally, being a New York pizza connoisseur, I can say the Kansas pizza was pretty good.

Before my presentation, the college hospitality abounded throughout the day. I received a magnificent tour of the Abbey by Brother Joe, along with historical stories about the Kansas Monks going back to the 1800s and their origin in Germany. When we asked students to confirm directions to a building, each one stopped what they were doing and led the way to the location, let it be a spot on campus to pray or to see the property by the river where Louis and Clark crossed the Missouri river in 1804. The people at all the front desks were professional and supportive. Kasey even provided a ride into town and back for additional meetings.

The tour President, Dr. Minnis, gave was extraordinary. From the handmade Tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupa tile reproduction over a fireplace in the new library’s sitting room with impeccable wood décor to the 250th American anniversary display. A display of rare revolutionary period items on loan and a replica of the liberty bell is available for all to see. I shared with Dr. Minnis my research and article that I did on George Washington based on the evidence that our first president converted the day before he died and became Catholic. For my presentation I received full logistic support from Laurence and his team. The feedback from students and faculty was very encouraging. I estimated about 500 seats in the auditorium and was happy to see they were about 75% filled. I provided my contact info to the audience and website – GoingTrueGreen.com
I am truly grateful and honored to have contributed in a small way to Benedictine College and their inspiring edifying.
