GWM is preparing to broaden its Australian electric and plug-in hybrid line-up as it targets a 16-product portfolio by the end of 2027.

The expansion includes the Ora Touring EV, a larger Haval Jolion with expected electric and plug-in hybrid options, and a PHEV version of the Haval H7.

They will give GWM more entries in the electric family-car market, alongside its growing range of plug-in hybrid utes.

GWM Australia chief operating officer John Kett told EV Central the company hoped to introduce the Jolion Maxi and Ora Touring before the end of 2026.

“We’re hoping by the end of the year, we’ll have the Jolion Maxi and the Ora Touring,” Kett said.

The Jolion Maxi, also referred to as the Jolion Max, is a larger SUV than the existing Jolion, moving into the mid-size category.

Its expected powertrain choices include a 150kW/260Nm battery-electric version and a 238kW/528Nm plug-in hybrid, alongside a conventional petrol-electric hybrid producing 164kW/482Nm.

Those figures remain indicative rather than confirmed Australian specifications.

The broader powertrain selection would give GWM another contender against electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG S5 EV, while the plug-in hybrid would compete for buyers considering the BYD Sealion 5 and Sealion 6.

The Ora Touring will expand GWM’s battery-electric offering with a longer, wagon-like body, adding another option alongside the Ora 5 electric SUV.

Meanwhile, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Haval H7 are scheduled for October. The PHEV will add another GWM alternative in a family SUV market that includes the Toyota RAV4 PHEV and BYD Sealion 6.

The SUV expansion follows the introduction of the Cannon Hi4-T, giving GWM a second plug-in hybrid ute alongside the larger Cannon Alpha PHEV. Its ute rivals include the BYD Shark 6, Ford Ranger PHEV and JAC Hunter PHEV.

Kett said fresh products were central to GWM’s response to an increasingly crowded Australian market.

“I think that’s the only response to the marketplace you can deliver is new product, new interest, get people’s attention,” he said.

“There are some great performance vehicles in our 3.0-litre diesel, plug-in hybrid vehicles that we’re launching, and a couple of EVs.”

Across the combined model and powertrain rollout, GWM expects its Australian portfolio to grow from nine models to about 16 products.

“We’ll end up with a portfolio by Q4 next year that we think is about 16 products,” Kett said. “These aren’t just silhouette cars in a portfolio, they’re happening.”
