An artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled energy project has been launched in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales (NSW), in Australia, coordinating solar and battery storage at a commercial hotel and event venue.
China-headquartered inverter and energy storage system provider Sungrow deployed its ST200CF Powerkeeper (PK) battery energy storage system (BESS) across four PK stacks at the site to support the variable energy needs of the 78-room facility.
The stackable design enables flexible capacity expansion to accommodate variable site loads at the Gilbratar Bowral hotel and events venue.
Sungrow said the modular DC-coupled architecture simplified retrofits by avoiding complex transformer upgrades and grid approvals, achieving plug-and-play compatability with the existing solar and hybrid inverters.
Sungrow Business Development Manager Richard Chen said the value of a system like this goes beyond payback.
“It needs to be safe, reliable and intelligent enough to respond to changing energy needs,” Chen said.
The system, including an SH11OCX hybrid inverter was been installed by JT Solar Technology trading as Aussie Hybrid Solar, and is AI-enabled through a University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney AI Energy Management System (AI EMS).
The AI energy scheduling and virtual power plant (VPP) dispatch, enables autonomous charge-discharge optimisation based on solar output, site load, electricity prices and grid conditions to boost renewable self-consumption and energy resilience.
“By integrating PowerKeeper into the VPP model, the project demonstrates how advanced storage solutions can serve both commercial reliability needs and broader community energy goals,” Sungrow said.
