AMSilk GmbH, a global leader in advanced biomaterials crafted from silk proteins, has announced that its bioengineered yarns are now part of Balenciaga’s Spring 2026 fashion collection. The collection includes a crisp white shirt with a sharp collar and a black shirtdress that cinches at the waist with a ribbon tie. Both pieces feature subtle details, such as a tone-on-tone embroidered Balenciaga logo on a gleaming-buttoned cuff, and are available in select Balenciaga stores worldwide and online.

This milestone marks a significant step for the luxury fashion industry, as AMSilk’s innovative silk protein yarns transition from development and pilot projects into consumer-ready products. The collaboration demonstrates that biotech materials can meet the high standards of luxury fashion, including aesthetics, durability, consistency, and compatibility with existing manufacturing processes.

Ulrich Scherbel, CEO of AMSilk, expressed enthusiasm about the development: “Seeing our material in a global luxury collection is a defining moment. It shows that bioengineered materials are no longer experimental—they are ready for demanding markets.

This achievement reflects years of technological progress and highlights how innovation at the material level can support both performance and sustainable production systems.”

Inspired by nature, AMSilk’s biomaterials are 100% protein-based, biodegradable, and free of microplastics. Using advanced science such as DNA editing and protein engineering, the company transforms natural biogenic materials into what it calls “Biogenius Materials”: a new standard in sustainable and high-performance textiles.
