Biomanufacturing company Amyris has finished building a new production line at its plant in Barra Bonita, Brazil. The expansion will help meet growing demand for sustainable ingredients across multiple industries.
The new line adds a 2x 80m3 configuration to the facility’s three existing 2x 200m3 lines. It’s designed to speed up development and produce high-value specialty molecules more efficiently. Industries served include flavors, fragrances, agriculture and food.
“This exciting expansion is an important milestone as Amyris embraces growing customer needs,” said Kathy Fortmann, CEO of Amyris. “Our new line enables Amyris to say yes to more customers.”
The line includes advanced automation and process controls. The company says this setup allows for better precision when making custom molecules. It also helps customers at different stages of bringing products to market.
“It maximizes efficiency, flexibility, and reliability,” said Adam Blaziak, Chief Operations Officer at Amyris.
Amyris uses fermentation technology to create ingredients for multiple sectors. These include beauty products, advanced materials, food and beverage applications, and fragrances.
The expansion strengthens operations while positioning the company for future growth. The Barra Bonita facility is Amyris’s flagship site for precision fermentation production.
With four production lines now running, the plant can handle more specialized projects and larger commercial volumes. The company creates ingredients used by hundreds of millions of people daily.
