  • In ongoing discussions with the Trump administration ahead of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans release, the National Pork Producers Council has formally expressed concerns regarding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s forthcoming definition of “ultra-processed foods,” which could be damaging for consumers of pork products.
  • The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) submitted comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in response to the agencies’ request for information to help develop a uniform definition of “ultra-processed foods” for human food products in the U.S. food supply.
  • In answer to the National Pork Producers Council’s consistent engagement with his administration, President Trump has signed trade deals with Malaysia and Cambodia, with the Malaysia portion having enormous economic potential for America’s 60,000+ pork producers.
  • The Meat Institute released the following statement regarding the White House’s announcement of trade deals with Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam: “We are so grateful to U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer and Assistant USTR for Agricultural Affairs Julie Callahan for their hard work to address both tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade that have been challenging meat and poultry exports for years,” said Meat Institute President and CEO Julie Anna Potts. “We have worked closely with the Trump Administration to gain better access to growing markets in Southeast Asia and these agreements are a big win for our members.”

  • USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation have approved $687,000 for nine new research grants at six institutions through the comprehensive research program. The boards of directors for both organizations approved the research funding following recommendations from the Foundation Research Advisory Committee (FRAC). This committee assesses research proposals for their relevance to the industry and advises the boards on funding decisions. Its members are professionals from various segments of the poultry and egg industry, bringing diverse expertise to the evaluation process.
