rgentina’s Energy Secretariat has approved the qualification of bids submitted in the AlmaSADI tender, the national and international procurement process for battery energy storage systems on the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). According to Resolution SE No. 136/2026, 232 of the 235 bids received have been cleared to advance to the economic stage, while three were disqualified for non-compliance with tender requirements.

The tender, administered by CAMMESA, aims to contract energy storage services providing capacity, operating reserves and short-term services to the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM). Resolution SE 50/2026, which launched the process, set a reference target of 700 MW and required bidders to provide at least four consecutive hours of energy from new battery energy storage systems.

Interest far exceeded the initial target. At the opening of technical bids on May 27, the government said 235 proposals had been submitted by 37 domestic and international companies, representing 8,335 MW of capacity, nearly 12 times the volume sought in this first round. The projects are spread across critical nodes in the Northwest, Northeast, Central, Litoral, Cuyo and Buenos Aires regions, excluding the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

With the qualification process complete, CAMMESA will proceed to open the economic bids for the approved projects. Under the published timetable, that stage is scheduled for June 24, with awards expected in early July. If the 700 MW target is maintained, total investment is estimated at around $700 million.

The AlmaSADI tender follows Argentina’s first large-scale storage procurement, AlmaGBA, which awarded 713 MW of battery capacity for critical nodes in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The new round seeks to add battery storage capacity in other regions of the country to provide fast response, operational flexibility and reserves, particularly in areas facing grid constraints or higher reliability needs.
