BEAM Circular has awarded $1.064 million to twelve local education and training organizations in Stanislaus County, marking the second round of grants aimed at developing the region’s bio-based manufacturing workforce.
The funding, supported by American Rescue Plan Act dollars from Stanislaus County, will support projects ranging from professional development for teachers to hands-on science programs for students at various educational levels. An independent review panel selected the recipients.
Combined with an earlier $970,000 awarded last August, the initiative has now distributed over $2 million to regional institutions. The grants target two main areas: workforce development programs and wet lab training facilities.
Major recipients include Modesto Junior College, which received $208,800 to expand biotechnology lab capacity for up to 17,500 students over five years. Patterson Joint Unified School District was awarded nearly $135,000 to establish bioeconomy pathways with new STEM labs and greenhouse upgrades.
Other funded initiatives include teacher training programs, middle school biotechnology courses, early childhood STEAM resources, and automation training for underserved residents. The projects span elementary schools through colleges.
“By investing in educators, modern learning environments, and hands-on, career-connected experiences, we’re expanding access to opportunity while building a workforce that can support innovation,” said Gloriamar Gamez, Chief Program Officer of BEAM Circular.
The grants reflect a coordinated effort to align education with industry needs across the county. Projects aim to serve thousands of students and workers, creating pathways from early learning through career placement in the growing bioeconomy sector.
Additional grant awards are currently under review, with more announcements expected in coming months.
