Biotech company bitBiome has entered a development and manufacturing partnership to create a bio-synthetic production process for a high-value food ingredient used in flavors and fragrances.

The collaboration involves an unnamed commercial partner that holds a significant share of the global market for this product category. The joint development agreement aims to transition conventional production methods to a scalable, bio-based platform.

Under the terms, bitBiome will develop and implement the bio-synthetic production process. The company will also serve as the manufacturing and supply partner once the ingredient reaches commercialization. Initial demand during early commercialization is projected at double-digit metric tons annually, with growth expected as production scales.

“By leveraging our proprietary microbial genome database and discovery platform, together with proprietary AI-powered genome-scale bioengineering, we are enabling a commercially viable transition from conventional production methods to a bio-based supply chain,” said Yuji Suzuki, CEO of bitBiome.

The company focuses on high-value products that align with market demands for sustainable alternatives while offering immediate revenue potential. bitBiome combines genomic intelligence with bioprocess engineering capabilities.

The partnership reflects broader industry trends toward environmentally responsible manufacturing technologies. Through its capabilities in enzyme discovery, pathway and strain engineering, and scaled fermentation, bitBiome aims to advance biomanufacturing solutions for industrial deployment.

The collaboration represents another step in the growing bio-based manufacturing sector, where companies are developing alternatives to traditional production methods for commercial ingredients.
