Bunge Brazil has secured a significant certification for its soybeans destined for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a major milestone in the global effort to decarbonize air travel.
This achievement makes Bunge the first company worldwide to certify soybeans under a rigorous sustainability standard.
Announced in late December 2025, the certification verifies the sustainability and traceability of soy supply chains in line with international standards. It’s granted by SCS Global Services under the ISCC CORSIA PLUS protocol, and is recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It confirms that Bunge’s soybeans meet strict criteria, including low risk of indirect land use change (LUC), helping prevent deforestation and environmental harm.
Covering soy from Mato Grosso and Goiás, the initiative emphasizes zero-deforestation, regenerative agriculture, and greenhouse gas reduction. An initial volume of 100,000 tonnes supports SAF producers aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050, including Brazilian airlines and international refineries.
Bunge’s comprehensive audits ensure compliance with no-burn policies, soil health practices, and biodiversity preservation. The certification aligns with ICAO’s CORSIA scheme, which encourages airlines to adopt sustainable fuels and offset emissions.
Bunge’s innovative use of blockchain technology ensures end-to-end traceability, with 100% of its soy supply now tracked on its platform. The soy also meets EU deforestation regulations set to take effect in 2026, including farm geolocation and sustainable farming practices like no-till and crop rotation.
As the world’s leading soybean exporter, Brazil faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable sourcing. Bunge’s achievement positions it ahead of competitors and could command premium prices for SAF-grade soy. With SAF demand rising 20% annually , this certification underscores the country’s potential role in clean energy solutions.
