BNZ and Pāmu have pioneered a new model to finance the restoration and biodiversity enhancement of established native forest using carbon finance – with CarbonCrop providing the measurement, monitoring, and traceability infrastructure for the life of the project. The partnership covers 600 hectares of native forest in northern Hawke’s Bay, sequestering approximately 1,100 tonnes of carbon each year, and opens a new pathway for landowners whose pre-1990 native forest sits outside the NZ ETS.
