Cox Enterprises has launched its first Cox Cleantech Residency, bringing together 10 early-stage startups for a six-week program in Atlanta. The initiative, run with gener8tor and the Georgia Cleantech Innovation Hub, gives each company a $10,000 stipend along with mentorship and access to Cox’s industry network.
The cohort was chosen from 75 applicants across the Southeast. Several companies are working directly with biological and bio-based innovation. Ecoatex, based in Athens, Georgia, converts agricultural byproducts into bio-based materials that can replace petroleum and PFAS ingredients in packaging, coatings and textiles.
Regenerative Growth Technologies, based in Atlanta, helps farms turn organic waste into biofertilizer on-site, cutting fertilizer costs while improving soil health. R-Fusion, based in Boone, North Carolina, is developing manufacturing technology that builds performance directly into textiles, reducing water, energy and chemical use.
Other startups in the cohort focus on AI-driven infrastructure, clean energy and materials discovery, reflecting a broader push to modernize supply chains and strengthen community resilience.
Jack Semrau, who leads Cox Enterprises’ Atlanta Venture Ecosystem, said the residency helps founders move from early concept to proof of concept by connecting them with experienced operators and investors. Marie Northington, program director at gener8tor, said the founders are tackling challenges that could reshape how communities are powered, fed and built, and that the program strengthens Atlanta’s position as a cleantech hub.
The residency builds on Cox Enterprises’ broader cleantech portfolio, which includes more than $3 billion in investment to date. That includes Cox Farms, a large-scale indoor agriculture operator, Nexus Circular, which recycles hard-to-recycle plastics, and the Cox Cleantech Accelerator, which provides later-stage funding to startups preparing for Series A.
