OTTAWA – In reaction to Mark Carney being elected as the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and thus the new Prime Minister of Canada, Keith Stewart, Senior Energy Strategist at Greenpeace Canada, said:

“We stand at a pivotal moment in our history, and now the hard work begins. The best revenge for Trump’s unprecedented assault on our livelihoods, environment and democracy would be to become an even better Canada by building a greener, fairer society that will be a beacon to the world. An election is coming and our next government should protect people, not polluters or billionaires.”

Greenpeace Canada is calling on all political parties to reject Trump-style politics and build a better future and sustainable livelihoods by:

  • Respecting Indigenous rights and sovereignty.
  • Making billionaires and polluting or price-gouging corporations pay their fair share.
  • Building homes for people, not profit.
  • Delivering cheaper, cleaner energy.
  • Investing in safe, healthy communities.
