Swiss cleantech company Seprify is entering the European cosmetics market through a new partnership with Germany’s Grolman Group. The collaboration will bring SilvaLuma, Seprify’s cellulose-based cosmetic ingredient, to formulators across the EU, the UK and Turkey.

SilvaLuma took more than 20 months to research, develop and validate. It is designed to boost SPF performance and deliver mattifying effects, while reducing reliance on mineral and fossil-based materials. For brands under pressure to reformulate, that combination is well timed.

The European cosmetics industry is navigating a challenging moment. Regulatory scrutiny is tightening, consumers are demanding greener options and brands are actively seeking alternatives that reduce UV filter loads and address concerns around marine ecosystems and fossil-derived polymers.

Under the agreement, Grolman Group will add SilvaLuma to its cosmetics portfolio across the three markets. Seprify will provide technical support and manufacturing capabilities to help customers develop and scale formulations.

SilvaLuma draws on Seprify’s broader cellulose technology platform, which originated from research at the University of Fribourg and the University of Cambridge. The ingredient shares its bio-based foundation with the company’s plant-derived white pigment for food applications. Both products aim to deliver strong performance alongside a lower carbon footprint.

The move signals a meaningful shift for Seprify. Having established itself in food applications, the company is now staking a claim in high-performance cosmetics, with Europe as its first target market.
