A new transmission, a redesigned cab, heavier loader capacity and an emphasis on comfort are the features John Deere is lauding in the latest generation of its 6R series: the MY27 6R.
Described by John Deere as a “power-dense tractor built for a wide range of jobs,” the MY27 6R comes in four frame sizes and 15 models. (MY stands for “model year.”)
Series tractors with at least 180 horsepower feature a new powershift transmission, updated controls and high-capacity closed-centre hydraulics for added lifting power.
This capacity ranges from about 5,575 to 6,350 pounds.

With rated horsepowers ranging from 119 to 264, the line is being marketed by Deere as the perfect fit for any farm, dairy or ranch.
Anne Anderson, marketing manager for the series, says the unit may be particularly appealing to mixed and row crop operations in Canada.
“It’s also really good in terms of someone that’s running a dairy or has a commercial hay operation because you have a higher horsepower to run some of those bigger implements that our commercial hay folks have.
The MY27 6R is a direct response to farmers seeking versatility in a tractor, she says.
‘Intelligent’ shifting
New to the 6R series is the e19 powershift transmission, which the 19 refers to its number of gears. Deere says it “intelligently” adjusts shifting and gear selection based on multiple tractor and environmental inputs.
Although automatic, Anderson says it can also run manually, depending on operator preference.
In auto mode, the gears shift based on the inputs the operator gives the engine throttle and the speeds they’re travelling.

“It almost feels like it’s continuous or it’s infinitely shifting.”
The new version of the CommandArm — a feature common to both the 6R and 8R series — is a central feature of the rebuilt cab. It includes a display for adjusting climate control, media and nine colour ambient lighting from the operator’s seat.
The other controller — the CommandX — manages speed and machine direction. The standard CommandX Plus and CommandX Pro joysticks are available for models featuring the e19 and AutoPowr transmissions.
The new “vision seat” offers 50-degree swivel, electric adjustments and comfort features such as neck ventilation.
