Maia Farms Inc., a Vancouver-based food technology company specializing in mushroom and mycelium ingredients, announced the successful closing of an oversubscribed $3.75 million Seed equity financing. This round increases the company’s total funding in 2025 to over $6.5 million, including non-dilutive support.
Founded in 2021 by Gavin Schneider, Ashton Ostrander, and Dr. Sean Lacoursiere, Maia Farms aims to revolutionize plant-based ingredients through innovative fermentation and extrusion processes. The latest funding was led by Active Impact Investments, with follow-on contributions from Nya Planet, Ag-West Bio, PIC Investment Group, and Deep Checks.
In addition to the equity raise, Maia Farms has received strategic backing from Genome BC, Natural Products Canada, Protein Industries Canada, and the National Research Council of Canada. The funds will enabling the company to expand its commercial production, develop new ingredients, and strengthen partnerships with food manufacturers and distributors.

Looking ahead, Maia Farms plans to enhance its fermentation and extrusion capacity, advance its proprietary Fungal Intelligence platform, and grow its operational team. In 2025, the company partnered with The Greater Vancouver Food Bank as part of its Nourish Life Mission to promote food resilience.
The funding also saw the expansion of Maia Farms’ Board of Directors, with Mike Winterfield from Active Impact and Yuan Shi from Nya Planet joining the team, bringing expertise in commercial strategy and sustainable food systems.
