The 2027 edition of the Ottawa Valley Farm Show will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the the Ottawa Seed Growers and the organization is already ramping up ways to celebrate.
The seed growers group’s volunteer board of directors runs the farm show.
Quilt kits were given out at the 2025 farm show and the squares were returned to organizers in time for them to create a king-sized quilt, vibrant in reds, golds and greens.
Designs ranged from figures of a tractor and cow to complex geometric shapes.
The quilt hung at the entrance to the 2026 Ottawa Valley Farm Show from March 10 to 12 at the EY Centre.
Kathy Hardy, a long-time volunteer with the seed growers and a member of the quilt committee says that the squares were mostly created by quilters in eastern Ontario, but were returned from as far away as Alberta.

The quilt will be auctioned at the fund-raising auction held at the 2027 show. An auction is held at each show to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), where some items always go for many times their book value. It’s expected that this quilt will sell well in 2027.
A group of quilters worked to put the individual squares together into a cohesive quilt.
How did it look when finished?
“I think it’s fabulous,” says Hardy.
