MG has revealed full pricing and specifications for its new 07 electric sedan at the Chengdu motor show, including up to 845km of claimed range, semi-solid-state battery technology and bargain-basement Chinese pricing.
First revealed in May, the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal rival has now officially gone on sale in China with seven EV and plug-in hybrid variants priced from 108,900 to 159,900 yuan – roughly $23,000-$34,000.
The big news is what MG is offering for that money. Five versions are battery-electric, split between 67kWh semi-solid-state and larger 91kWh conventional lithium-ion batteries.

The 67kWh battery, supplied by SAIC-backed Qingtao, powers versions with claimed CLTC ranges of 610km and 650km.
Those models use a 400V electrical architecture and a 176kW/300Nm front-mounted electric motor.
The flagship makes a substantial technical step up with a 91kWh CATL battery, 800V silicon-carbide electrical architecture and 5C fast-charging capability.
Its front electric motor produces 235kW and 350Nm and MG claims up to 845km of CLTC range and 0-100km/h acceleration in the five-second bracket.
That means the 07 isn’t simply one technical package with different battery capacities. The longest-range versions get substantially more sophisticated charging and electrical hardware than the cheaper semi-solid-state cars.
The semi-solid-state battery is arguably the most interesting development since MG first revealed the 07.
MG says the technology offers better resistance to puncture and extreme temperatures than conventional liquid-electrolyte cells while maintaining strong low-temperature charging performance.
The 07 is also offered as a plug-in hybrid, combining an 82kW 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 152kW electric motor and 30kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery.
MG claims 245km of electric-only range on the Chinese CLTC cycle and a huge 1745km total range with a fully charged battery and full tank. The PHEV battery can recharge from 30 to 80 per cent in a claimed 15 minutes.
The PHEV range opens at 108,900 yuan, while the 650km EV starts from 116,900 yuan – about $A25,000 on a straight currency conversion.
Even an 845km EV equipped with LiDAR is priced from 149,900 yuan, with the flagship topping out at 159,900 yuan.
There’s plenty of equipment, including mCDC adaptive dampers, MG’s VMC 2.0 vehicle-motion control system and, on selected versions, the Momenta R7 driver-assistance system and roof-mounted LiDAR first announced when the 07 was revealed.
Inside is a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm 8295P processor, while higher grades add features including a zero-gravity front passenger seat, electrically dimming panoramic roof and 21-speaker audio system.
Chinese buyers have responded strongly, with MG claiming 10,000 locked orders in less than two minutes after sales opened at Chengdu and more than 42,000 after 20 days.
There is still no confirmation the MG 07 will come to Australia to jojn the brand’s substantial EV and PHEV lineup.
