Minesto, a leader in ocean energy technology, has received a €24,000 grant from the Swedish Energy Agency (SEA). The funding, provided through the Global Innovation Accelerator (GIA) program, will support Minesto’s efforts to develop tidal energy projects in Taiwan.
The company participated in the Nordic-Taiwan Sustainable Energy Forum held in Taipei in December of 2025. At the event, Minesto showcased its innovative ocean-energy solutions and connected with key stakeholders in Taiwan’s energy sector. The forum was organized by Business Sweden Taiwan and Taiwan’s Energy Administration, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss energy resilience and international collaboration.
With the grant, Minesto plans to secure investments and form partnerships for building tidal power plants near Keelung and Green Island. These sites are promising because of the strong ocean currents, which provide predictable renewable energy opportunities in the region.
Dr. YungLung Chen, Minesto’s Project Developer in Taiwan, highlighted the significance of this support. “The GIA program helps us expand our partner network and secure funding,” he said. “This is crucial for establishing our first Dragon Farms in Taiwanese waters.”
Taiwan’s collaboration with local institutions, such as National Taiwan Ocean University and Taiwan Cement Green Energy, strengthens Minesto’s efforts. These partnerships aim to commercialize tidal energy solutions tailored to Taiwan’s future renewable power needs.
As assessments continue, Taiwan’s ocean currents show great potential for sustainable energy. Minesto’s bio-inspired tidal technology could play a key role in building a resilient, low-carbon energy system for the region.
