The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture brought together a group of U.S. agriculture and renewable fuels stakeholders to submit a coordinated response to the U.K. Department for Transport’s call for evidence on crop-derived sustainable aviation fuels.

The effort included dozens of stakeholders from across the U.S. agriculture and renewable fuels sectors, including state departments of agriculture, commodity organizations and industry representatives with expertise spanning agricultural production, sustainability, renewable fuels, commodity markets and international trade. Contributors included the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Nebraska Department of Agriculture, along with ADM, the American Soybean Association, Gevo, Growth Energy, the Illinois Corn Growers Association and Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Illinois Soybean Association, the Iowa Farm Bureau, the National Corn Growers Association, Nebraska Corn, the Nebraska Farm Bureau, Renewable Fuels Nebraska, the U.S. Grains and BioProducts Council and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, among others.

Through a working group approach, stakeholders aligned their expertise to specific areas of the call for evidence. The submission reflects both technical expertise and practical experience across the U.S. agricultural and renewable fuels value chain. It highlights the role of U.S. agriculture, including corn- and soybean-based feedstocks, in sustainable aviation fuel production, while also addressing broader considerations related to sustainability, market development and trade.

The submission builds on continued engagement between NASDA, its collaborators and U.K. counterparts following a recent inbound mission in late 2025. It reflects a shared interest in ongoing dialogue on sustainable aviation fuels and related opportunities.

NASDA will continue engagement with international stakeholders on sustainable aviation fuels and related market development efforts. States and organizations interested in participating in future work are encouraged to connect with NASDA’s trade team.
