Niber Technologies has launched NUSPUN, a new ingredient brand of performance laminates for the apparel industry. The Singapore-incorporated company says the materials combine high breathability with tunable weather protection.
The launch comes as PFAS rules tighten. These chemicals have long given garments extra waterproofing. Brands now need alternatives. Niber says most PFAS-free options force a trade-off between water protection and breathability.
NUSPUN laminates are built on electrospun nanofiber membranes. The process builds a 3D fiber web fiber by fiber. Conventional membranes are cast or stretched instead. Niber says the pores let moisture vapor out and keep water out. It adds that the membranes are made without intentionally added PFAS.
Nanofiber membranes are not new. Moving them from the lab to continuous, high-volume production has been hard for the wider industry. Niber says it controls every stage, from formulation and electrospinning to membrane and finished laminate. Co-founder Jaehyung Park said that control lets the company tune performance to a brand’s needs.
For years, Niber supplied membranes as an unnamed OEM manufacturer. Co-founder Jaemin Park said NUSPUN lets brands and consumers see what is inside their apparel.
The range has three platforms. Arcus targets extreme weather, with waterproofing above 10,000 mmHâ‚‚O. Ventus combines windproofing with water resistance for activities such as skiing and trail running. Stratos offers air permeability above 1 CFM with water resistance, for high-output sports like cycling.
Future work will aim for lighter, stretchier laminates. Niber also sees room for bio-based and lower-carbon polymers. President and Chief Strategy Officer Richard Beck said the materials can still be pushed further.
Selected brand partners will receive the laminates from Q4 2026. The first products are expected in Fall/Winter 2027 outerwear collections.
