Ørsted’s Board of Directors has announced Rasmus Errboe, current Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, as the company’s new Group President and CEO, replacing Mads Nipper. Errboe will officially assume the role on 1 February 2025.
Leadership Shift Amid Industry Challenges
Lene Skole, Chair of Ørsted’s Board of Directors, emphasized the necessity of this transition given significant shifts in the renewable energy market. “The impacts on our business of the increasingly challenging situation in the offshore wind industry, ranging from supply chain bottlenecks, interest rate increases, to a changing regulatory landscape, mean that our focus has shifted,” she said. “Therefore, the board has today agreed with Mads Nipper that it’s the right time for him to step down and the board has appointed Rasmus Errboe to take over as CEO.”

Experience & Vision for Ørsted
Errboe, who has been with Ørsted since 2012, brings extensive experience in leadership roles, including as Deputy CEO, CCO, and Regional Head of the European market. Skole expressed confidence in his leadership: “I’m delighted to welcome our new CEO Rasmus Errboe. He has a deep understanding of our business and an extensive knowledge of the energy industry. I’m therefore convinced that Rasmus is the right person to lead the company through the challenges facing the industry and Ørsted.”
Errboe acknowledged the current headwinds facing Ørsted but remained committed to advancing the company’s vision. “I’m honoured and humbled to step into the role of CEO of a company I’ve proudly served for the past 13 years. Offshore wind remains crucial for the green transition, and we’re deeply committed to pursuing our vision of a world that runs entirely on green energy,” he stated.

Despite the obstacles we’ve faced, we’ve achieved many significant milestones, and I’m immensely proud of our colleagues’ efforts and dedication,” he said.

Skole acknowledged Nipper’s contributions, highlighting his role in expanding Ørsted’s renewable capacity from 11.3 GW in 2021 to 18.2 GW in 2025. “On behalf of the board, I’d like to thank Mads Nipper for his commitment to Ørsted’s vision and his strong and constructive collaboration with the board,” she added.
With Errboe at the helm, Ørsted aims to navigate market shifts while reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and offshore wind expansion.
