Energy company Plenitude and biomethane developer Methagora have agreed to a 15-year supply deal for 50 GWh of biomethane annually in France.

Under the agreement, Methagora will sell biomethane from various French agricultural areas to Plenitude. The deal operates under France’s Biomethane Production Certificates scheme, which encourages energy suppliers to support biomethane production injected into the gas network.

The partnership demonstrates both companies’ commitment to securing certified biomethane volumes for the French market. The CPB framework helps biomethane producers invest while guaranteeing consumers access to certified, locally produced energy.

Plenitude operates in France with nearly one million energy customers and about 1 GW of installed renewable capacity. The company is also expanding its electric vehicle charging network in the country.

Methagora targets existing methanization sites that currently use biogas for cogeneration. The company’s model converts these facilities into injection units by installing equipment like scrubbers, compressors and expansion valves to produce biomethane.

The company has already converted five sites representing 35 GWh of sales and plans to double capacity in 2026. Methagora works with farmers and industrial companies on energy transition projects.

Plenitude, controlled by Eni, operates in more than 15 countries with over 5.8 GW of installed renewable capacity and 10 million European customers. The company runs 23,000 electric vehicle charging points and aims to reach over 10 GW of renewable capacity and 11 million customers by 2028.

The agreement supports development of the biomethane sector in France through long-term supply commitments.
