The Eras Tour: Redefining Concerts
Taylor Swift’s 149-date Eras Tour spanned Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas before wrapping in Vancouver in December 2024. With gross revenues of $2.2 billion, it became the first concert tour in history to cross the $2 billion mark.

The impact of the Eras Tour, which caused a media sensation dubbed “Swiftmania,” was felt at the economic level. The tour reportedly boosted the U.S. economy by some $4 billion as millions of fans traveled and spent extensively on hotels, food, and merchandise.
And the economic impact was abroad as well. Economists predicted a roughly 0.2% boost to the Singaporean gross domestic product, while Paris reportedly saw a larger economic impact from the tour than from the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Billion-Dollar Club
While Swift stands alone in surpassing $2 billion from a single tour, four other tours join the Eras Tour in the billion-dollar club.
Running from 2022 to 2025, Coldplay’s post-pandemic Music of the Spheres Tour ($1.6 billion) became the most attended tour in history. The band also prioritized a more sustainable approach, kicking off the tour in Costa Rica due in part to the country’s environmental credentials.
Other British artists with billion-dollar tours include Ed Sheeran, whose Divide Tour grossed $1.0 billion, and Elton John, whose Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour reached $1.0 billion.
U2’s 360° Tour, which ran from 2009 to 2011, predates the other entries in the billion-dollar club. Adjusted for inflation, it grossed nearly $1.1 billion.
Pop Star or Rock Band?
By and large, the list of highest-grossing concert tours is a mixture of legacy acts and contemporary pop stars. No tour from before 2000 makes the list, in large part as touring has grown to become a larger financial lifeline to artists given declining music sales.
Most of the artists in the ranking come from the United Kingdom or United States. Exceptions include Ireland’s U2, Australia’s AC/DC with the Black Ice World Tour ($677 million), and Canadian pop star The Weeknd with the After Hours til Dawn Tour ($736 million).
German metal band Rammstein’s 2019-2024 Stadium Tour ($598 million) is the only entry from a non-Anglophone act.
