As a multi-stakeholder network, our members are at the heart of RSB, bringing the commitment and expertise that drive our mission forward. That is why we established an exclusive space for our members, where we can transform ideas into action, foster collaboration, and deliver real-world sustainability impact: RSB’s Platforms & Initiatives.
More than just discussion forums, these platforms bring together industry, civil society, and experts – both online and in person – to develop independent sustainability guidance, interpret regulations and legislations, refine standards, and shape market frameworks that support a thriving, sustainable bioeconomy.
By becoming an RSB member, organisations gain exclusive access to these spaces, engaging directly with a diverse community of stakeholders to advance best practices and drive meaningful change.

Our platforms and initiatives
Currently, RSB hosts seven key platforms and initiatives – with more on the way – each designed to address the most pressing challenges in advancing sector transformation towards a sustainable bioeconomy. In 2024, RSB hosted 30 platform meetings, engaging with over a 1,000 participants from 33 organisations. Take a closer look:
.
RSB Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Policy Platform
One of RSB’s most popular platforms, the SAF Policy Platform is a space for RSB members from industry, civil society, and academia to exchange knowledge and develop sustainability guidance on SAF policy. This platform fosters cooperation to ensure sustainable practices align with evolving SAF regulations. In 2024, the platform explored relevant topics for the sector such as book and claim and co-processing. Read the white paper, Implementing successful public policies to shape the sustainable future of the aviation industry.
.
.
RSB Book & Claim Platform
A multi-stakeholder initiative strengthening the RSB Book & Claim System to support the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors like shipping and aviation. In 2024, the group met 11 times, including a popular ‘Additionality Month’ segment with external speakers from across the SAF industry, including Quintin Barnes (Smart Freight Centre), Azim Bin Norazmi (IATA), and Owen Hewlett (Gold Standard). The platform helps develop a transparent, credible model to accelerate emissions reductions across industries. Read the latest version of the RSB Book & Claim Manual.

.
RSB Sustainable Biomass Policy Platform (SBPP)
One of RSB’s newer platforms, the SBPP is a cross-sector platform bringing together industry, civil society, and academia to navigate the complexities of biomass policy. With a focus on primary biomass feedstock, it facilitates collaboration to develop sustainability best practices that support effective policymaking. In 2024, members of the SBPP met for an in-person event at the RSB Innovations Meeting in partnership with P&G. Read the platforms’ policy briefs on sustainability frameworks, the food vs fuel debate, and leveraging carbon incentives.

.
RSB Power-to-X (PtX) Platform
A multi-stakeholder forum for assessing and mitigating sustainability risks in PtX technologies, particularly for aviation and shipping. While RSB’s Standard for Advanced Fuels covers renewable fuels from non-biological sources, this platform refines best practices to guide responsible deployment. Read the PtX Handbook.
.
.
RSB Sustainable Marine Fuel Platform
A space for industry leaders, fuel producers, and civil society to collaborate on sustainability challenges in the transition to sustainable marine fuels. This platform engages with regulators and stakeholders to ensure a consistent, science-based approach to sustainability. In 2024, the platform underscored RSB’s mission for earnest collaboration, exploring complex possibilities for book and claim through stakeholder consultation and feedback. Read the white paper, Decarbonising the Maritime Sector.

.
Sustainable Airports Platform
A collaborative initiative for airports to exchange knowledge on sustainability and their role in the SAF economy. Linked to ALIGHT, an EU-funded project led by Copenhagen Airport, this platform advances best practices for SAF supply, integration, and smart energy use at airports. Among its many members, you will find leaders in the aviation industry, including Airbus, Boeing, CPH, SkyNRG, SeaTac, United, SFO, Rome, World Energy, Microsoft and Nuseed. At the RSB Ports Meeting last year, RSB Members split into sessions for the RSB Sustainable Marine Fuels Platform and the Sustainable Airports Platform.
.
.
RSB General Standards Working Group
A technical working group composed of sustainability experts from across RSB’s multi-stakeholder membership. This group continuously refines RSB’s globally recognised sustainability framework and certification system to ensure it remains rigorous, adaptable, and aligned with the latest scientific and policy developments. In 2024, the group met five times to explore important proposed developments in RSB standards including a Standard Amendment for Woody Biomass, discussions on an updated GHG Calculation Methodology, and work on RSB Impact Indicators.
