Schneider Electric has launched a new smart Level 2 residential EV charger The new Schneider Charge, now available in the US and Canada, is designed to help homeowners add Level 2 charging within a home’s existing electrical capacity.
Many homes, especially older homes, don’t have sufficient electrical capacity to support high-power applications like EV charging, so installing a Level 2 charger may require expensive service and/or panel upgrades.
Schneider Charge features SmartAmp, Schneider Electric’s dynamic load-management technology, which monitors household electrical use in real time and automatically adjusts charging speed when other appliances need power. This helps homeowners maximize charging output without separate monitoring devices or additional system components.
Schneider Charge delivers 11.5 kW/48 A of charging output. It’s compliant with OCPP 1.6, and supports managed-load installations in accordance with UL 3141.
The charger is available with NACS (J3400) or J1772 connectors. It features a hardwired design for permanent installation (a plug-in version is to be introduced in early 2027) and a 25-foot charging cable. Installation support is available through Qmerit.

By building load management into the charger, we’re making home EV charging easier to install with less complexity and disruption for homeowners.”
