Ride Fast, Ride Legal
Anything over 28 mph on this list belongs on private land or a registered plate. Wear a full face or DOT helmet above class 3 speeds, check your state’s ebike classes before you unlock a mode, and treat a 125 lb bike at 44 mph like the motorcycle it is.
Fastest Electric Bikes of 2026: Quick Picks
Fastest eBikes Compared: Top Speed, Peak Power and Battery
Top speed is the manufacturer’s number unless the card says we measured it. Peak power is the brand’s figure too, and it explains the order better than the wattage on the sticker. We checked every price against the brand’s own store in October 2026.
Off-Road Only: 40 to 70 mph
Four bikes here are not electric bicycles in any legal sense. The GoatPower King Goat and Hulk Goat, the Heybike Villain and the Aptum VM1 are small electric motorcycles with pedals or pegs, and their brands say so in the fine print. GoatPower ships the King Goat with a 20 mph limiter and tells buyers it may not qualify as an ebike where they live. Heybike and Aptum call theirs off-road only.
On paper the gap between them is huge. The King Goat claims 70 mph in sport mode from a 72V system, the Hulk Goat claims 60 mph from a 10,000W peak motor, and the Villain and VM1 ran 44.3 and 36.5 mph on our GPS. In practice the Villain and VM1 are the two we would put a newer rider on, because they weigh 100 to 125 lb instead of 180, and because we have ridden them.
Street-Legal Class 3 and Moped-Style: 28 to 35 mph
The other six ship as class 2 or class 3 electric bikes. A class 3 bike assists to 28 mph on the pedals, usually with a 20 mph throttle, and that is the number the Heybike Titan, Monarc Marker, Juiced Scrambler and Heybike Saturn all hit on our runs. The Tenways Wayfarer is the outlier in a good way. It is rated for 28 and briefly showed 29 on our display.
The Segway Xyber and the Saturn sit on the line. Both have app settings that go past 28 mph, 35 mph on the Xyber with one battery and about 36 on the Saturn, and both brands say those modes belong on private land. We ranked the Xyber on its 35 mph single battery figure because that is how it is sold. With Segway’s second battery installed, it claims up to 43 mph.
The Legal Note
In most US states an electric bicycle tops out at class 3: a 750W motor, working pedals and 28 mph of pedal assist. Anything faster, or anything without pedals, is a moped or a motorcycle in the eyes of the DMV. That usually means a title, registration, insurance and a license, or riding it only on private land. The rules vary by state and sometimes by city, so check yours before you buy a bike you cannot ride home.
Our electric moped vs ebike vs motorcycle guide walks through the classes, and our best electric motorcycles we have tested covers the registered side of the market.
The Fastest Electric Bikes, Ranked by Top Speed
Rank 1 is the fastest claimed top speed. Every card says whether the number is ours or the brand’s.
Fastest overall:GoatPower King Goat
Check latest price →Direct from GoatPower
The King Goat is the fastest electric bike you can order online with a credit card and no dealer visit. GoatPower lists a 3,500W motor with 8,000W peak and 320 Nm of torque, fed by a 72V 40Ah battery that works out to 2,880 Wh. The sport mode throttle is rated for 70 mph, and GoatPower says 65 mph plus is realistic in the right conditions. It ships limited to 20 mph, and you unlock the rest yourself.
The hardware behind that number is motorcycle grade. DOT-4 Karasawa hydraulic brakes, a 100 mm inverted fork with lockout and fully adjustable Fastace rear shocks hold up a 179 lb bike rated for a 450 lb rider. GoatPower rates range at 80 miles in Eco and 31 miles in sport mode, and a full charge takes 4 to 5 hours. A 62.5Ah version pushes peak power to 12,500W. We have not ridden the King Goat, so every number here is GoatPower’s.
Why we like it
- ✓ 70 mph sport mode
- ✓ 2,880 Wh battery
- ✓ 8,000W peak, 320 Nm
- ✓ DOT-4 hydraulic brakes
- ✓ 450 lb rider rating

Biggest battery:GoatPower Hulk Goat
Check latest price →Direct from GoatPower
The Hulk Goat is the biggest bike GoatPower makes. The QS hub is rated for 5,000W continuous and 10,000W peak with 230 Nm, the 60V 50Ah battery is the largest on this list at 3,000 Wh, and GoatPower claims 60 mph and 60 miles of range at full throttle. It has pegs for a passenger instead of pedals, which makes it an electric motorcycle in everything but paperwork.
GoatPower does not publish a curb weight, only a 300 lb crate, and the bike has no VIN and is not DOT registered. That means private land or a state that lets you register it yourself. Hydraulic disc brakes and a 450 lb weight limit are the two specs we would want on a bike this heavy. On paper it is a bargain next to the King Goat. We have not ridden the Hulk Goat, and the numbers here are GoatPower’s.
Why we like it
- ✓ 3,000 Wh battery
- ✓ 10,000W peak
- ✓ 230 Nm
- ✓ Passenger pegs
- ✓ 450 lb weight limit
Keep in mind
- − No pedals
- − Weight not published

Fastest we tested:Heybike Villain
Check latest price →Direct from Heybike
The Villain is the fastest electric bike we have put a GPS on. Heybike claims 45 mph, and we measured 44.3, the smallest gap between claim and GPS we have seen on a budget dirt bike. A 4,160W peak mid-drive with 190 Nm of torque does the work, and three modes cap it at 20, 38 and 45 mph. Heybike now sells it as the V1 Electric Dirt Bike, and the link below goes to that page.
In practice it is a pit bike, not a commuter. The 52V 26Ah battery holds 1,352 Wh, but hard riding gave us about 20 miles against a 50 mile claim, and the 14 by 2.5 and 12 by 3.0 inch wheels get twitchy near top speed. Hydraulic brakes on 190 mm rotors, a 150 mm fork and a rear shock are solid for the money, and it climbs like a bike twice the price. It weighs about 125 lb, fits riders up to 6 ft 1 in, and Heybike says off-road only.
Why we like it
- ✓ 44.3 mph on our GPS
- ✓ 190 Nm
- ✓ Climbs like a pricier bike
- ✓ 190 mm rotors
- ✓ RG Score 9.4
Keep in mind
- − About 20 mi real range
- − Off-road only
Key specs
- Motor:4,160W peak mid-drive
- Battery:52V 26Ah, 1,352 Wh
- Top speed:44.3 mph (tested)
- Range:about 20 mi (tested)
- Weight:about 125 lb
- Wheels:14 in front, 12 in rear
Lightest off-road pick:Aptum VM1
Check latest price →Sold by Voro Motors
The VM1 is the lightest fast bike here, and the cheapest. Its display reads 39 mph, but our GPS said 36.5, so that is the number we rank it on. The 2,000W peak motor gave us the quickest 0 to 10 mph run we have recorded anywhere near this price, and it held 26 to 27 mph up our test hill, the fastest uphill quarter mile we have logged in this class.
On the scale it weighed 102.4 lb against a 101 lb claim. The 1,008 Wh battery ran out at 21.5 miles with a 210 lb rider averaging about 30 mph, so plan on short sessions. Four piston DOT hydraulic brakes, front and rear suspension and knobby 14 and 12 inch tires round it out, and larger riders will want to stiffen the preload right away. Voro Motors sells it, and Aptum calls it an off-road mini moto.
Why we like it
- ✓ 36.5 mph on our GPS
- ✓ Quickest 0 to 10 at this price
- ✓ 102 lb
- ✓ 4 piston DOT brakes
- ✓ RG Score 9.3
Keep in mind
- − 21.5 mi tested range
- − Soft stock preload
Key specs
- Motor:2,000W peak
- Battery:1,008 Wh
- Top speed:36.5 mph (GPS)
- Range:21.5 mi (tested)
- Weight:102.4 lb (tested)
- Payload:240 lb
Best big-brand pick:Segway Xyber
Check latest price →Direct from Segway
The Xyber is the big brand entry, and it is sold in two states. On paper, with the single 1,440 Wh battery it ships with, Segway rates it at 3,000W, 120 Nm, 35 mph and 0 to 20 mph in 2.7 seconds. Add the dealer installed second battery and Segway claims 6,000W peak, 175 Nm, up to 43 mph and more than 100 miles of range. We ranked it on the single battery figure, because that is the bike you get for the price on the page.
Segway calls it off-road only, recommends it for riders 18 and over, and puts a speed limiter in the app. The frame hides the battery inside a cast body, and it weighs about 138 lb before the second pack. Apple Find My and a two year warranty come standard. We have not ridden the Xyber, so every number here is Segway’s.
Why we like it
- ✓ Big brand support
- ✓ 0 to 20 in 2.7 s (claimed)
- ✓ 1,440 Wh standard
- ✓ 43 mph with 2 batteries
- ✓ 2 year warranty
Keep in mind
- − 138 lb
- − Second battery is extra
Key specs
- Motor:3,000W single, 6,000W peak dual
- Battery:1,440 Wh (2,880 Wh dual)
- Top speed:35 mph (43 mph dual, claimed)
- Range:56 mi single (claimed)
- Weight:about 138 lb
- Warranty:2 years
Smoothest class 3:Tenways Wayfarer
Check latest price →Direct from Tenways
The Wayfarer is the only bike here that goes past its rating. Tenways rates it as a 28 mph class 3 commuter, and we briefly saw 29 on the display during our top speed runs. It got there on a 500W rear hub with 750W peak and 65 Nm, through a torque sensor that is the main reason it scored 9.4. The motor measured 62 dB, about as loud as two people talking.
It is also the lightest bike on this list at 66 lb. Our runs went 0 to 20 mph in 8.46 seconds and 0 to 25 in about 12.5, and the 720 Wh LG battery gave us 21.2 miles in bad conditions: a 210 lb rider, an 8 to 9 mph headwind, 50 degrees and a motor heavy riding style. An adjustable air fork, a suspension seatpost, a detachable throttle and Apple Find My are standard. The 264 lb payload is the lowest here.
Why we like it
- ✓ 29 mph on our run
- ✓ Torque sensor feel
- ✓ 66 lb
- ✓ 62 dB motor
- ✓ RG Score 9.4
Keep in mind
- − 264 lb payload
- − 21 mi range in bad weather
Key specs
- Motor:500W, 750W peak
- Battery:720 Wh LG
- Top speed:29 mph (tested)
- Range:21.2 mi (tested, cold)
- Weight:66 lb
- Payload:264 lb
Most flickable moped:Heybike Titan
Check latest price →Direct from Heybike
The Titan holds a real 28 mph, and it is the most flickable moped style bike we have tested. It ships as a class 2 bike at 20 mph, and one tap in the Heybike app makes it class 3. The 48V 750W motor peaks at 1,500W with 65 Nm, and it kept pulling from 20 to 28 mph instead of flattening out, which is rare at this price.
The dual battery version we tested carries 1,440 Wh, and one of the two packs took a rider over 200 lb a measured 34.2 miles at the 28 mph setting. Our hill took 59 seconds at an average of 16 mph, against 13 to 14 mph for a generic 750W bike. It weighed 95 lb on our scale and carries 300 lb, with passenger pegs and full suspension on 20 by 4 inch tires. Off the line it is slower than the cheaper Saturn.
Why we like it
- ✓ Real 28 mph
- ✓ 34.2 mi on one battery
- ✓ 16 mph hill average
- ✓ Passenger pegs
- ✓ RG Score 9.7
Keep in mind
- − 95 lb
- − Slower launch than Saturn
Key specs
- Motor:750W, 1,500W peak
- Battery:1,440 Wh dual
- Top speed:28 mph (tested)
- Range:34.2 mi on one pack (tested)
- Weight:95 lb (tested)
- Payload:300 lb
Highest RG score:Monarc Marker
Check latest price →Direct from Monarc
The Marker is the highest scoring bike we have ever tested, at 9.9, and we put it here because it reaches its 28 mph class 3 ceiling with authority. In our acceleration test it hit 28 mph in about 11 seconds in its highest assist setting, roughly twice as fast as the same run in a lower mode. A Bafang B750 rear hub makes 750W with 1,638W peak and 85 Nm through a 30A controller.
Two removable 720 Wh packs give it 1,440 Wh and the longest claimed range of the street bikes, 60 miles. It ships as class 2 and can be set to class 1, 2 or 3. Talon P4 four piston hydraulic brakes, a Shimano CUES 9 speed and 26 by 4 inch Kenda tires are the parts list, and it weighed 88 lb on our scale, light for a dual battery fat bike. It is a step through, so it fits more riders than the moped styles.
Why we like it
- ✓ RG Score 9.9
- ✓ 28 mph in about 11 s
- ✓ 1,440 Wh dual battery
- ✓ 88 lb on our scale
- ✓ Four piston Talon brakes
Keep in mind
- − Step through, not moped style
- − Priciest street bike here
Key specs
- Motor:750W Bafang, 1,638W peak
- Battery:2 x 720 Wh, 1,440 Wh
- Top speed:28 mph (tested)
- Range:up to 60 mi (claimed)
- Weight:88 lb (tested)
- Brakes:Talon P4 four piston
Best hill climber:Juiced Scrambler
Check latest price →Direct from Juiced
The Scrambler is the hill climber of the street group. It ships as a 20 mph class 2 bike and unlocks to 28 mph in class 3, and it got there faster than anything else in its price range we have run. Our 0 to 20 mph pass took about 6.3 seconds, roughly twice as quick as a typical budget 750W moped style bike, and it held about 22 mph up a hill where most competitors drop to 14.
Credit the 30A controller and the roughly 1,764W peak, 90 Nm motor. The 52V battery holds about 1,000 Wh, and a dual battery option roughly doubles that. Four piston hydraulic brakes on 180 mm rotors stopped it in about 12 feet from 15 mph. A 140 mm KKE inverted fork handles the front, and it weighed 82 lb on our scale. Juiced backs it with a three year warranty, and our link goes to the hardtail.
Why we like it
- ✓ 22 mph on our hill
- ✓ 0 to 20 in about 6.3 s
- ✓ 4 piston brakes
- ✓ 3 year warranty
- ✓ RG Score 9.2
Keep in mind
- − Single speed
- − Hardtail at this price
Key specs
- Motor:750W, 1,764W peak
- Battery:52V, about 1,000 Wh
- Top speed:28 mph (tested)
- Range:28 mi (tested)
- Weight:82 lb (tested)
- Payload:300 lb
Best budget moped-style:Heybike Saturn
Check latest price →Direct from Heybike
The Saturn is the cheapest moped style bike on this list, and it is the one we tell most people to buy. It ships as a class 3 bike at 28 mph and can be unlocked to about 36 mph where that is legal, which changes the character of the bike and comes with real responsibility. A 1,000W hub with 1,800W peak and 95 Nm moves 115 lb with no drama.
We tested the dual battery version, two 18.4Ah packs for 1,766 Wh, and it is the long range king of this group with 50 plus miles of real world riding. Full suspension, 20 by 4 inch fat tires and two piston hydraulic brakes are built for comfort first, and the 330 lb payload is the highest of the street bikes. It needs garage space. The single battery version costs less and halves the range.
Why we like it
- ✓ 50+ mi real range (dual)
- ✓ Cheapest moped style here
- ✓ 330 lb payload
- ✓ Full suspension
- ✓ RG Score 9.0
Keep in mind
- − 115 lb
- − Two piston brakes
Key specs
- Motor:1,000W, 1,800W peak
- Battery:1,766 Wh dual
- Top speed:28 mph (tested)
- Range:50+ mi dual (tested)
- Weight:115 lb
- Payload:330 lb
Claimed vs What We Measured
We only call a bike tested when it has been on our GPS and our scale. Seven of these ten have. The Heybike Villain claims 45 mph and ran 44.3 on our GPS, the smallest claim to measured gap we have seen on a budget dirt bike. The Aptum VM1 shows 39 mph on its display and 36.5 on GPS, which is why we list 36.5. The Tenways Wayfarer is rated at 28 mph and briefly showed 29 on our run.
The Heybike Titan held a real 28 mph and carried a rider over 200 lb a measured 34.2 miles on one of its two batteries. The Monarc Marker reached 28 mph in about 11 seconds in its highest assist mode, and the Juiced Scrambler went 0 to 20 mph in about 6.3 seconds and held 22 mph up our test hill. We rode the Heybike Saturn at its 28 mph class 3 setting and did not chase the 36 mph unlock. The GoatPower King Goat, Hulk Goat and Segway Xyber have not been on our loop, so their numbers are the brands’ claims and their cards say researched.
How to Choose a Fast Electric Bike
Speed is the easiest spec to buy and the hardest to use. These are the checks we run before the top speed number means anything.
- Class first, speed second: If you ride on public roads, a class 3 bike at 28 mph is the fastest thing you can legally call a bicycle in most states. Everything above that is a moped or motorcycle on paper, whatever the brand calls it.
- Peak watts, not sticker watts: Most bikes here say 750W or 1,000W on the sticker and make something else at the controller. The Scrambler’s 1,764W peak and 30A controller are why it climbs, and the Goats’ 8,000 to 10,000W peaks are why they are not bicycles.
- Watt-hours per mile: Speed eats battery. The Villain used about 1,352 Wh in 20 miles, and the VM1 did 21.5 miles on 1,008 Wh at about 30 mph. Budget 40 to 70 Wh per mile above 30 mph, against 15 to 25 for a class 3 commuter.
- Brakes and rotors: A 125 lb bike at 44 mph needs four piston calipers and big rotors. Look for 180 mm or larger rotors on anything over 28 mph, and DOT fluid on anything over 40.
- Weight you can live with: The Wayfarer weighs 66 lb and the King Goat 179. Above about 100 lb you need a ground floor, a ramp or a truck, and most bike racks are out.
- Unlock modes and warranties: App unlocks on the Titan, Saturn and Xyber take seconds, and every one of those brands says the fast modes are for private land. Read the warranty terms before you tap.
Fastest Electric Bike FAQs
What is the fastest electric bike you can buy online?
The GoatPower King Goat, with a 70 mph sport mode rated by GoatPower, a 72V 2,880 Wh battery and 8,000W peak. It ships limited to 20 mph and is not an electric bicycle under most state laws, so it belongs on private land or registered as a motorcycle.
What is the fastest street-legal electric bike?
A class 3 ebike assists to 28 mph, and that is the legal ceiling in most states. The Heybike Titan, Monarc Marker, Juiced Scrambler and Heybike Saturn all hit 28 mph on our runs, and the Tenways Wayfarer showed 29. For more street picks, see our best moped-style ebikes.
What is the fastest electric bike RiderGuide has tested?
The Heybike Villain, at 44.3 mph on our GPS against a 45 mph claim. The Aptum VM1 is next at 36.5 mph. Both are off-road only.
Is a 60 or 70 mph electric bike legal?
Not as a bicycle. Anything past class 3 speeds has to be ridden on private land or registered as a moped or motorcycle, with a license and insurance, in most states. GoatPower says its bikes may not qualify as ebikes and ships them limited to 20 mph. Rules vary by state, so check yours first.
Do faster electric bikes have less range?
Yes. The Villain gave us about 20 miles from 1,352 Wh, and the VM1 21.5 miles from 1,008 Wh at about 30 mph. The 28 mph Titan carried a rider over 200 lb 34.2 miles on one 720 Wh pack. Above 30 mph, budget 40 to 70 Wh per mile.
Are the GoatPower bikes and the Segway Xyber tested?
No. We have not ridden the King Goat, Hulk Goat or Xyber, so their cards say researched and their speeds are the brands’ claims. The other seven bikes have RG scores from full tests.
Where do electric dirt bikes fit on this list?
The Villain and VM1 are small electric dirt bikes with pedals or pegs, which is why they are faster than any class 3 ebike and why they are off-road only. Full size options without pedals are in our best electric dirt bikes guide.
Final Thoughts
If you want the fastest electric bike you can buy online and you have somewhere legal to ride it, the GoatPower King Goat is the answer, with the Hulk Goat as the heavier, cheaper second. The Heybike Villain is the fast and proven pick, with 44.3 mph on our GPS for a fraction of the Goats’ price. Riders who stay on public roads should buy the Heybike Titan or Monarc Marker and enjoy a real 28 mph.
Speed is cheap to claim and expensive to use. We will move the Goats and the Xyber into the tested group as they come through our loop, and every spec here is in our Ride Finder. If you would rather stand than pedal, our fastest electric scooters list is ranked the same way, by top speed.

is the fastest electric bike you can buy online?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”The GoatPower King Goat, with a 70 mph sport mode rated by GoatPower, a 72V 2,880 Wh battery and 8,000W peak. It ships limited to 20 mph and is not an electric bicycle under most state laws, so it belongs on private land or registered as a motorcycle.”}},{“@type”:”Question”,”name”:”What is the fastest street-legal electric bike?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”A class 3 ebike assists to 28 mph, and that is the legal ceiling in most states. The Heybike Titan, Monarc Marker, Juiced Scrambler and Heybike Saturn all hit 28 mph on our runs, and the Tenways Wayfarer showed 29. For more street picks, see our best moped-style ebikes.”}},{“@type”:”Question”,”name”:”What is the fastest electric bike RiderGuide has tested?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”The Heybike Villain, at 44.3 mph on our GPS against a 45 mph claim. The Aptum VM1 is next at 36.5 mph. Both are off-road only.”}},{“@type”:”Question”,”name”:”Is a 60 or 70 mph electric bike legal?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”Not as a bicycle. Anything past class 3 speeds has to be ridden on private land or registered as a moped or motorcycle, with a license and insurance, in most states. GoatPower says its bikes may not qualify as ebikes and ships them limited to 20 mph. Rules vary by state, so check yours first.”}},{“@type”:”Question”,”name”:”Do faster electric bikes have less range?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”Yes. The Villain gave us about 20 miles from 1,352 Wh, and the VM1 21.5 miles from 1,008 Wh at about 30 mph. The 28 mph Titan carried a rider over 200 lb 34.2 miles on one 720 Wh pack. Above 30 mph, budget 40 to 70 Wh per mile.”}},{“@type”:”Question”,”name”:”Are the GoatPower bikes and the Segway Xyber tested?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”No. We have not ridden the King Goat, Hulk Goat or Xyber, so their cards say researched and their speeds are the brands’ claims. The other seven bikes have RG scores from full tests.”}},{“@type”:”Question”,”name”:”Where do electric dirt bikes fit on this list?”,”acceptedAnswer”:{“@type”:”Answer”,”text”:”The Villain and VM1 are small electric dirt bikes with pedals or pegs, which is why they are faster than any class 3 ebike and why they are off-road only. Full size options without pedals are in our best electric dirt bikes guide.”}}]}
