As intersecting global crises—from accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss to pollution, deepening inequalities, and geopolitical instability—intensify across scales, understanding the role of technology in shaping pathways toward sustainability is increasingly urgent.
The European sustainability science conference “Towards a Just and Habitable World: Exploring the Role of Technology” invites researchers and practitioners from across disciplines and sectors to examine how technological systems influence the prospects for just and sustainable futures. The conference will address technologies ranging from water and energy infrastructures to agroecology, nature-based solutions, synthetic biology, and digital systems, exploring how these interventions can both support and undermine human and non-human well-being.
Future Earth encourages the community to contribute to a forward-looking program that assesses how technological systems can be transformed toward sufficiency, equity, and resilience.
